Wall Printing

How wall printing works.

Wall mural printing Sydney, done in place. Instead of hanging paper or applying vinyl, a large format vertical mural printer lays ink directly onto the wall. The image lives in the surface itself.

The machine

The printer is a large format vertical unit that rolls up to your wall, calibrates to the surface, and applies UV cured ink in a controlled pass from floor to ceiling. It reads the wall as it goes and lays down colour with the precision of a fine art print.

Because there is no adhesive layer, no substrate and no seam, the finished wall keeps the texture of the surface underneath. A printed feature wall on lightly rendered plaster looks and feels like a rendered wall, printed.

Surfaces

Direct to wall printing works on most well prepared interior surfaces:

  • +Painted plasterboard
  • +Rendered walls
  • +Concrete and cement sheet
  • +Timber panels
  • +Glass, where suitable
  • +Ceramic tile, where suitable

Dark or heavily coloured walls receive a printed white base layer so colours read true. That is a quoting factor, not a fixed fee.

Artwork

Send us high resolution artwork at print size and we prepare it for the wall. If you only have a small file, a rough idea or a mood board, our studio prepares print ready artwork at no extra charge. Custom artwork design starts from $250 as an add on.

See what a printed wall typically costs on the pricing page, or browse the gallery for finished work.

On print day

The printer arrives on the agreed date. The wall is checked, the printer is calibrated to the surface, and printing begins from the floor upward. A typical residential feature wall of six to ten square metres is finished in a few hours. Larger walls run for a full day.

Printing up to 3 metres high, wider walls printed in aligned sections. The ink is UV cured on contact so the wall is dry when we leave. We also print onto floors using the same technology, see floor printing.

Questions

A few common ones.

How high can you print on a wall?+

The vertical printer prints up to 3 metres from the finished floor in a single pass. Wider walls are printed in sections that align at the seam so the finished wall reads as one image.

What files do I need to send?+

High resolution files at print size work best, ideally 150 dpi at the finished dimensions in TIFF, PNG or high quality JPEG. If you only have a small file or an idea, we prepare print ready artwork for you at no extra charge.

How long does a wall take on the day?+

A typical residential feature wall of six to ten square metres is printed in a few hours. Larger commercial jobs run for a full day. Wall preparation is done before print day so the on site time is predictable.
